Pregnant mothers often seek out chiropractic care for one of the following reasons:
- The position of the baby in the uterus is a concern.
- Back, neck, leg and/or hip pain becomes a major discomfort during pregnancy.
Position of the baby in the uterus. A breech baby is of concern to mothers and their doctors because a vaginal birth risks injury to the baby or mother, including cord prolapse and head entrapment. A baby in breech position can also lead to a lack of oxygen for the baby or damage to the umbilical cord. These complications often make a C-section the safest recommended delivery method for a breech baby.
Chiropractic manipulation is often successful in treating the mother whose baby is breech. There is a well-known and safe technique developed by Dr. Larry Webster to gently and carefully turn the child. Dr. Staley has a success rate of over 90% using the Webster turning technique.
